5 Reasons Why It’s Important To Date Someone With A Credit Score Above 600

[A] good credit score is important for a healthy relationship and your date’s financial history can tell you a lot about them.  Here are 5 reasons why you’ll want to date someone with a good credit score:

  1. A credit score above 600 represents a track record of financial responsibility and career success. Many college graduates can land a high-paying job, but not all of them can keep one. However, a credit score above 600 takes years of quality bill-paying habits to develop. While a good credit rating does not necessarily guarantee someone’s level of responsibility, chances are that your date would not forget to pay the water bill if you eventually got married or chose to cohabitate.
  2. More and more parents are seeking private loans to help pay their children’s college expenses. If your date has a credit score below 600 now, chances are he will repeat the same habits that caused his credit score to plummet. So it will likely be difficult if not impossible for him to help foot his share of the loans for any college expenses. Thus, a partner with a poor credit rating could significantly harm your child’s chances of higher education especially as college tuition rates rise and financial aid funds dwindle.
  3. A growing number of companies check their employees’ credit ratings before promoting them. So even if your date/future partner stays with the same company, she may have a difficult time moving up on the pay scale if her company thinks she is financially irresponsible.
  4. Studies prove that people with low credit ratings engage in riskier behavior such as reckless driving and are more apt to become desperate for cash and try elaborate schemes such as insurance fraud. Thus, car insurance companies virtually always check the credit scores of customers. The lower the credit score, the more it will cost to get basic auto insurance. Most states will not allow uninsured motorists to drive without paying a hefty fine, so a low credit rating can lead to countless financial and freedom issues in this department.
  5. Getting new vehicles, furniture, and electronics does not have to require a lot of upfront cash if you both have good credit ratings. People with poor credit scores either go for expensive rent-to-own options, seek deals on used goods, or forego some types of furniture entirely. While a used sofa isn’t necessarily unsightly and unhealthy, families are usually better served health-wise by getting new furniture at the lowest possible prices.
