[N]owadays, the economy is a major concern for people. In all too many cases, money or lack thereof is becoming more important than love. Growing numbers of people have reported that they would not date someone with a low credit score or a lot of student loan debt. However, these reports do not really discuss the potential dangers of credit score dating. Financial fitness is not just about a three-digit credit rating.
When people are dating, they want to make sure the person they’re seeing is financially responsible. That is very reasonable, as if a courtship leads to marriage, you could be tied to a person who could end up destroying you financially. Technology has expanded into our dating lives; individuals are looking to speedily assess each other as potential mates. An individual’s bad credit rating is often a quick deal breaker these days. With over 50% of modern day marriages ending in divorce, singles are reluctant to take on the past financial mistakes of someone else.
One of the reasons that “credit score dating” has become so popular is that a bad credit score can point to particular issues that could cause problems in the future. Relentless shopping sprees could be the result of depression or manic behavior, an indicator of possible mental illness. Another obvious revelation is that of a potential gambling problem, which prevents a person from paying their bills on time. A low credit score could also indicate that a person has a hard time holding down a job, possibly because they are difficult to get along with.
Of course a poor credit rating does not mean that an individual has any problems whatsoever. Lack of a credit history could be one reason. If the person has never applied for a loan, or has lived at home with their parents all their lives, they won’t have had the opportunity to establish a credit history. Could be they may have had some bad luck and experienced an unexpected financial hardship, which they are currently dealing with responsibly.
Of course it’s understandable not to want to get involved with someone who cannot pay their bills, but to judge a potential life partner by his or her credit score is not always the best way to go. If you are considering credit score dating, keep a balanced view of things; the best way to know if a person is right for you is to spend some quality time with them, and get to know their family and friends.
